Enabling SMTP Authentication in Your E-mail Client

Enabling SMTP Authentication in Microsoft Outlook 2002 (XP) or 2003
 

Step 1:

To enable SMTP Authentication in Microsoft Outlook 2002 (XP) or 2003 , while you are in Outlook, click on "Tools".  Next >>>

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Step 2:

Select "E-mail Accounts" from the menu that appears. Next >>>

 

 

 

 

 

 

Step 3:

Under the "E-mail" section, select "View or change existing e-mail accounts."  Click "Next" to proceed.

Step 4:

Click once on your FrontierNet, Citlink / CTAZ, or Newnorth account to highlight it. Select the "Change" button to proceed.  Next >>>


Note: If you receive e-mail from a provider other than Frontier, the "Name" *may* differ from what appears in the image below.

 

 

 

 

 

Step 5:

If your incoming mail server is set to pop3.frontiernet.net, pop3.citlink.net, or pop3.newnorth.net, make sure that your complete FrontierNet, Citlink, or Newnorth e-mail address is present in the "User Name" field in the "Logon Information" section.

If your incoming mail server is set to mail.ctaz.com, make sure that your complete CTAZ e-mail address is present in the "User Name" field in the Logon Information" section, in the format of "username@citlink.net" (replace "ctaz.com" with "citlink.net"). Please note, your e-mail address will *not* change.

Do not select "Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)".

If your incoming mail server is set to something other than pop3.frontiernet.net, pop3.citlink.net, mail.ctaz.com, or pop3.newnorth.net, do not make any changes to your Incoming mail server information, or "Logon Information".

If your outgoing mail server is set to smtp.frontiernet.net, smtp.citlink.net, mail.ctaz.com, or smtp.newnorth.net, select "More Settings" to proceed.  Next >>>

If your outgoing mail server is set to something other than smtp.frontiernet.net, smtp.citlink.net, mail.ctaz.com, or smtp.newnorth.net, no changes need to be made at this time.
 

 

 

 

 

 

Step 6:

On the window that appears, select the "Outgoing Server" tab.  Next >>>


Note: If you receive e-mail from a provider other than Frontier, your Mail Account name *may* differ from what appears in the image below.

 

 

 

 

 

Step 7:

Select the box to the left of "My outgoing mail server (SMTP) requires authentication", and select "Log on using".

Enter your complete FrontierNet, Citlink, or Newnorth e-mail address in the "User Name" field.

If you  are using a CTAZ e-mail address, enter your e-mail address in the "User Name" field in the format of "username@citlink.net" (replace "ctaz.com" with "citlink.net"). Please note, your e-mail address will *not* change.

Enter the password for this particular e-mail address in the "Password" field. Do not select "Log on using Secure Password Authentication".  Click "OK" to proceed.  Next >>>
 

 

 

 

 

Step 8:

Click "Next" to proceed.  Next >>>

 

 

 

 

 

 

Step 9:

Click "Finish" at the bottom of the window.  That's it! SMTP Authentication has been enabled.
