Enabling SMTP Authentication in Your E-mail Client

Enabling SMTP Authentication in Mac Mail v. 1.0 (OS X)

Please Note: One week prior to SMTP Authentication being required in your area, you will receive an e-mail from FrontierNet, informing you that the change will need to be made. These e-mails are sent to our customers on a Tuesday. Please wait until the following Tuesday (exactly one week) after receiving the notification to perform the steps below to enable SMTP Authentication.

Feel free to bookmark this page for future reference.

Step 1:

To enable SMTP Authentication in Mac Mail v. 1.0 (OS X), while you are in the program, click on "Mail" and then select "Preferences".  Next >>>

Step 2:

When the "Mail Preferences" window opens, you should be on "Accounts". Make sure that your FrontierNet account is highlighted in the "Description" field, and then click "Edit".  Next >>>

Note: If you receive e-mail from a provider other than Frontier, the Description *may* differ from what appears in the image below.

Step 3:

When the "Mail Preferences" window opens, you should be on the "Account Information" tab.

If your "Host name" is set to pop3.frontiernet.net, pop3.citlink.net, or pop3.newnorth.net, make sure that your complete FrontierNet, Citlink, or Newnorth e-mail address is present in the "User name" field.

If your "Host name" is set to mail.ctaz.com, make sure that your complete CTAZ e-mail address is present in the "User name" field, in the format of "username@citlink.net" (replace "ctaz.com" with "citlink.net").  Please note, your e-mail address will *not* change.

If your "Host name" is set to something other than pop3.frontiernet.net, pop3.citlink.net, mail.ctaz.com, or pop3.newnorth.net, do not make any changes to any fields in the "Host name" section of the "Account Information" tab.

If your "SMTP Host" is set to smtp.frontiernet.net, smtp.citlink.net, mail.ctaz.com, or smtp.newnorth.net, place a checkmark in the box to the left of "Use authentication when sending mail". Your complete FrontierNet, Citlink / CTAZ, or Newnorth e-mail address should be entered in the "SMTP User" field. For CTAZ users, again, your e-mail address should be entered in the format of "username@citlink.net" (replace "ctaz.com" with "citlink.net").

Your password should be entered in the "SMTP Password" field . Click "OK" to save any changes you may have made. Next >>>

If your "SMTP Host" is set to something other than smtp.frontiernet.net, smtp.citlink.net, mail.ctaz.com, or smtp.newnorth.net, no changes need to be made at this time.

Step 4:

Click the red circle in the upper left-hand corner of the window.  If asked, select "Save" to keep your changes. That's it!  SMTP authentication has been enabled!
