Enabling SMTP Authentication in Your E-mail Client

Enabling SMTP Authentication in Outlook Express (Version 5 & 6), or Outlook 2000

Note: The screenshots below represent Outlook Express (Version 5 & 6), but they are the same for Outlook 2000.

To print these instructions, select File > Print from your browser's menu bar.

Step 1:

To enable SMTP Authentication in Outlook Express (Version 5 or 6), or Outlook 2000, while you are in Outlook Express, click on "Tools".  Next >>>

Step 2:

Select "Accounts" from the "Tools" menu.  Next >>>

Step 3:

Select the "Mail" tab at the top of the Internet Accounts window.  Click "Properties" to proceed.  Next >>>

Note: If you receive e-mail from a provider other than Frontier, your account name *may* differ from what appears in the image below.

Step 4:

Select the "Servers" tab at the top of the window that appears.  Next >>>

Note: If you receive e-mail from a provider other than Frontier, your "User Information" *may* differ from what appears in the image below.

Step 5:

If your incoming mail server is set to pop3.frontiernet.net, pop3.citlink.net, or pop3.newnorth.net, make sure that your complete FrontierNet, Citlink, or Newnorth e-mail address is present in the "Account name" field.

If your incoming mail server is set to mail.ctaz.com, your CTAZ e-mail address should be placed in the Incoming Mail Server "Account name" field in the format of: username@citlink.net  (replacing "ctaz.com" with "citlink.net"). Please note, this will *not* change your e-mail address.

If your incoming mail server is set to something other than pop3.frontiernet.net, pop3.citlink.net, mail.ctaz.com or pop3.newnorth.net, do not make any changes to your incoming mail server information.

If your outgoing mail server is set to smtp.frontiernet.net, smtp.citlink.net, mail.ctaz.com or smtp.newnorth.net, place a checkmark in the box to the left of "My server requires authentication".  Do not select "Log on using Secure Password Authentication". Click the "Settings" button to proceed. Next >>>

If your outgoing mail server is set to something other than smtp.frontiernet.net, smtp.citlink.net, smtp.newnorth.net, or mail.ctaz.com, no changes need to be made at this time.

Step 6:

Select "Log on using", and enter your complete FrontierNet, Citlink / CTAZ, or Newnorth e-mail address in the "Account name" field.  If your e-mail address is in the format of username@ctaz.com, change "ctaz.com" to "citlink.net" (example: username@ctaz.com becomes username@citlink.net).  Please note, this will *not* change your e-mail address.

Enter the password for this particular e-mail address in the "Password" field. Do not select "Log on using Secure Password Authentication".  Click "OK" to proceed.  Next >>>

Step 7:

Click "Apply" at the bottom of the window, and then click "OK".  Next >>>

Step 8:

Click "Close" at the bottom of the window.  That's it! SMTP Authentication has been enabled.
