Enabling SMTP Authentication in Outlook Express v. 5 (for the Mac)
Note: Customers using Mac OS 8 or 9 and Outlook Express
for the Mac
releases that are prior to version 5.0.6 will need to
upgrade their Outlook Express to version 5.0.6 for SMTP Authentication to
function properly. To obtain Outlook Express version 5.0.6, click
here.
Warning: Upgrading a
prior version of Outlook Express to version 5.0.6 **may** cause
you to lose any e-mail messages that you have stored in Outlook Express,
and/or your Outlook Express Address book.
To determine what version of Outlook Express you may be running, while in the
program, select the Apple > About Outlook Express.
Step 1:
To enable SMTP Authentication in Outlook Express v. 5
(for the Mac), while you are
in the program, click on "Tools" at the top of the window and then
select "Accounts". Next >>>

Step 2:
When the "Accounts" window opens, you should be on the "Mail" tab.
Make sure your FrontierNet account is highlighted, and then select "Edit" to
proceed. Next >>>
Note: If you receive e-mail from a provider other than Frontier, the
name on the "Mail" tab *may* differ from what appears in the image below.

Step
3:
When the "Edit Account" window opens, you should be on the
"Account Settings" tab.
Under "Receiving mail", if your POP server is set to
pop3.frontiernet.net, pop3.citlink.net, or pop3.newnorth.net, make sure that
your complete FrontierNet, Citlink, or Newnorth e-mail address
is present in the "Account ID" field.
If your POP server is set to
mail.ctaz.com, make sure the your "Account ID" is in the format
of: username@citlink.net (replacing "ctaz.com" with "citlink.net").
Please note, this will *not*
change your e-mail address.
If your POP server is set to something
other than pop3.frontiernet.net, pop3.citlink.net, mail.ctaz.com, or
pop3.newnorth.net, do not make any changes to anything in the
"Personal Information" or "Receiving mail" sections.
If your SMTP server is set to
smtp.frontiernet.net, smtp.citlink.net, mail.ctaz.com, or smtp.newnorth.net, select "click here for advanced sending options" to
proceed.
Next
>>>
If your SMTP server is set to something other than smtp.frontiernet.net, smtp.citlink.net,
mail.ctaz.com, or smtp.newnorth.net, no changes
need to be made at this time.

Step
4:
Make sure that a checkmark is placed in the field to the
left of "SMTP server requires authentication". "Log on using" should be selected,
and you'll need to enter your complete FrontierNet, Citlink, or Newnorth
e-mail address in the "Account ID" field. If your
e-mail address is in the format of username@ctaz.com, change "ctaz.com"
to "citlink.net" (example: username@ctaz.com becomes username@citlink.net).
Please note, this will *not* change your e-mail address.
The password
for this particular account should be entered in the "Password" field. Click the square in the upper left
corner of the window when complete. Next >>>

Step
5:
Click "OK". If asked, select "Save" when asked if you'd like to save your changes. That's it! SMTP authentication has been enabled!
