Enabling SMTP Authentication in Your E-mail Client

Enabling SMTP Authentication in Mac Mail v. 1.25 (OS X.2 - Jaguar)

Please Note: One week prior to SMTP Authentication being required in your area, you will receive an e-mail from FrontierNet, informing you that the change will need to be made. These e-mails are sent to our customers on a Tuesday. Please wait until the following Tuesday (exactly one week) after receiving the notification to perform the steps below to enable SMTP Authentication.

Feel free to bookmark this page for future reference.

Step 1:

To enable SMTP Authentication in Mac Mail v. 1.25 (OS X.2 - Jaguar), while you are in the program, click on "Mail" and then select "Preferences".  Next >>>

Step 2:

You should now be in the "Accounts" window. Make sure that your FrontierNet account is highlighted in the "Description" field, and then click "Edit".  Next >>>

Note: If you receive e-mail from a provider other than Frontier, the name under the "Description" *may* differ from what appears in the image below.

Step 3:

You should now be on the "Account Information" tab.

If your incoming mail server is set to pop3.frontiernet.net, pop3.citlink.net, or pop3.newnorth.net, make sure that your complete FrontierNet, Citlink, or Newnorth e-mail address is present in the "User Name" field.

If your incoming mail server is set to mail.ctaz.com, make sure that your complete CTAZ e-mail address is present in the "User Name" field, in the format of "username@citlink.net" (replace "ctaz.com" with "citlink.net").  Please note, this will *not* change your e-mail address.

If your incoming mail server is set to something other than pop3.frontiernet.net, pop3.citlink.net, mail.ctaz.com, or pop3.newnorth.net, do not make any changes to your incoming mail server information.

If your outgoing mail server is set to smtp.frontiernet.net, smtp.citlink.net, mail.ctaz.com, or smtp.newnorth.net, select "Options" to proceed. Next >>>

If your outgoing mail server is set to something other than smtp.frontiernet.net, smtp.citlink.net, mail.ctaz.com, or smtp.newnorth.net, no changes need to be made at this time.

Step 4:

From the "Authentication" drop-down menu, select "Password".

Enter your complete FrontierNet, Citlink, or Newnorth e-mail address in the "User Name" field.

If your e-mail address ends with "ctaz.com", enter your e-mail address in the format of "username@citlink.net" (replacing "ctaz.com" with "citlink.net"). Please note, this will *not* change your e-mail address.

Enter your password in the "Password" field.  Click "OK" to proceed.  Next >>>

Step 5:

Click "OK".  If asked, select "Save" to keep your changes. That's it!  SMTP authentication has been enabled!
