Enabling SMTP Authentication in Your E-mail Client

Enabling SMTP Authentication in Mac Entourage

Note: Customers using Macintosh Entourage: 2001 9.0 will need to download and install Office security updates in order for Entourage to perform properly when SMTP Authentication is enabled.

The necessary security updates (Microsoft Office 2001 for Mac Security Update (9.0.5 and 9.0.6) can be found at http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx#Office2001 and will update Macintosh Entourage: 2001 9.0 to become version 9.0.6.

Step 1:

To enable SMTP Authentication in Mac Entourage, while you are in the program, click on "Tools" at the top of the window.

Step 2:

From "Tools", click on "Accounts" at the bottom of the menu.  Next >>>

Step 3:

When the "Accounts" window opens, you should be on the "Mail" tab.  Make sure your FrontierNet account is highlighted, and then select "Edit" to proceed.  Next >>>

Note: If you receive e-mail from a provider other than Frontier, the name on the "Mail" tab *may* differ from what appears in the image below.

Step 4:

When the "Edit Account" window opens, you should be on the "Account Settings" tab.

Under "Receiving mail", if your POP server is set to pop3.frontiernet.net, pop3.citlink.net, or pop3.newnorth.net, make sure that your complete FrontierNet, Citlink, or Newnorth e-mail address is present in the "Account ID" field.
If your POP server is set to mail.ctaz.com, make sure that your "Account ID" is entered in the format of: username@citlink.net (replacing "ctaz.com" with "citlink.net"). Please note, this will *not* change your e-mail address.

If your POP server is set to something other than pop3.frontiernet.net, pop3.citlink.net, mail.ctaz.com, or pop3.newnorth.net, do not make any changes to anything in the "Personal Information" or "Receiving mail" sections.

If your SMTP server is set to smtp.frontiernet.net, smtp.citlink.net, mail.ctaz.com, or smtp.newnorth.net, select "click here for advanced sending options" to proceed.  Next >>>

If your SMTP server is set to something other than smtp.frontiernet.net, smtp.citlink.net, mail.ctaz.com, or smtp.newnorth.net, no changes need to be made at this time.

Step 5:

Make sure that a checkmark is placed in the field to the left of "SMTP server requires authentication". "Log on using" should be selected, and you'll need to enter your complete FrontierNet, Citlink, or Newnorth e-mail address in the "Account ID" field.  If your e-mail address is in the format of username@ctaz.com, change "ctaz.com" to "citlink.net" (example: username@ctaz.com becomes username@citlink.net).  Please note, this will *not* change your e-mail address.

Enter the password for this particular account in the "Password" field.  Click the square in the upper left corner of the window when complete.  Next >>>

Step 6:

Click "OK".  If asked, select "Save" when asked if you'd like to save your changes. That's it!  SMTP authentication has been enabled!
